Prophecy (Prophecy #1)

by
.The greatest warrior in all of the Seven Kingdoms... is a girl with yellow eyes.

Kira’s the only female in the king’s army, and the prince’s bodyguard. She’s a demon slayer and an outcast, hated by nearly everyone in her home city of Hansong. And, she’s their only hope...

Murdered kings and discovered traitors point to a demon invasion, sending Kira on the run with the young prince. He may be the savior predicted in the Dragon King Prophecy, but the missing treasure of myth may be the true key. With only the guidance of the cryptic prophecy, Kira must battle demon soldiers, evil shaman, and the Demon Lord himself to find what was once lost and raise a prince into a king.

Intrigue and mystery, ancient lore and action-packed fantasy come together in this heart-stopping first book in a trilogy.

Dualed (Dualed #1)

by
.Would you live through the ultimate test of survival?

The city of Kersh is a safe haven, but the price of safety is high. Everyone has a genetic Alternate—a twin raised by another family—and citizens must prove their worth by eliminating their Alts before their twentieth birthday. Survival means advanced schooling, a good job, marriage—life.

Fifteen-year-old West Grayer has trained as a fighter, preparing for the day when her assignment arrives and she will have one month to hunt down and kill her Alt. But then a tragic misstep shakes West’s confidence. Stricken with grief and guilt, she’s no longer certain that she’s the best version of herself, the version worthy of a future. If she is to have any chance of winning, she must stop running not only from her Alt, but also from love . . . though both have the power to destroy her.

Elsie Chapman’s suspenseful YA debut weaves unexpected romance into a novel full of fast-paced action and thought-provoking philosophy. FACTS about Bridger Series
  1. Bridger’s folklore was found by Googling “Cool Legends.” I found the Irish folklore and loved it, and as they say, the rest is history.
  2. A reader contacted me and told me that they named their daughter after Ashlyn this year! I even had the chance to meet the little Ashlyn.

Haven Terra is a brainy, shy high school outcast. But everything begins to change when she turns sixteen. Along with her best friend Dante and their quiet and brilliant classmate Lance, she is awarded a prestigious internship in the big city— Chicago—and is sent to live and work at a swanky and stylish hotel under the watchful eyes of a group of gorgeous and shockingly young-looking strangers: powerful and alluring hotel owner Aurelia Brown; her second-in-command, the dashing Lucian Grove; and their stunning but aloof staff of glamazons called The Outfit.
As Haven begins falling for Lucian, she discovers that these beautiful people are not quite what they seem. With the help of a mysterious book, she uncovers a network of secret passageways from the hotel’s jazz-age past that leads her to the heart of the evil agenda of Aurelia and company: they’re in the business of buying souls. Will they succeed in wooing Haven to join them in their recruitment efforts, or will she be able to thwart this devilish set’s plans to take the souls of her classmates on prom night at the hotel?
Illuminate is an exciting saga of a teen’s first taste of independence, her experience in the lap of luxury, and her discovery she may possess strength greater than she ever knew.

Crowds, noise, loudspeakers, coffee smells: words that described Raleigh-Durham’s airport. There wasn’t much difference between New York’s JFK and North Carolina’s RDU. The noise and crowds were all the same in these places. An airport was still just another way of transporting someone from one life-changing situation to the next. And Tandie’s journey was about to begin again in a small town located about twenty minutes away from where she grew up.

Mythology: Guest Post by Sheenah Freitas

Today I have a special guest post from one of my best friends, Sheenah Freitas! Sheenah is the author of Zincian Legend Series and also Musings from Yesteryear. Sheenah and I bonded over anime with our fangirling passion :) And she was surprised that she was able to keep anime out of this guest post about mythology. Oh yes! Before you guys get to the guest post, here is a treat! You guys can download the first three chapters of The Chosen (Zincian Legend #1), just click the beautiful gif below! It is free!

Now without further adieu, a guest post by Sheenah on mythology!
Mythology. A body or collection of myths belonging to a people and addressing their history, deities, ancestors, and heroes. That definition spans every culture. Contrary to popular belief, Greek and Romans aren’t the only people who worshipped a pantheon of gods. With the popularity of Thor and The Avengers, most people are becoming aware of Norse mythology and I sense that we’ll be seeing a plethora of Norse mythological novels sometime in the near future. For thousands of years, people have been fascinated with the gods. Maybe it’s because they’re all powerful. Maybe it’s because despite their power, they suffer from human flaws.

Interview♥Giveaway with Tracey Garvis Graves, Author of On the Island

Today I am honour enough to have Tracey Garvis Graves, the author of On the Island here on FireStarBooks for an interview. Enjoy!

  1. When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?
I started out as a reader. As a child, my nose was always buried in a book and my friends teased me for using “big words” all the time. I always chose books above my reading level so some of those words naturally found their way into my vocabulary. If you ask my best friends they’ll tell you they always knew I’d write a book someday, but I’m not sure *I* knew it.
I attended the University of Iowa my freshman and sophomore years of college, and I had the opportunity to take a fiction writing class taught by a member of the Iowa writer’s workshop. I loved that class. I took another fiction writing class at the small liberal arts college I transferred to in Des Moines (where I ultimately obtained a business degree that I’ve never used). The instructor wrote a comment on one of my short stories that said: “If you keep writing, I really think you will be published someday.” I still have that short story with her handwritten note.
I didn’t start to think seriously about writing a novel until I’d been blogging for a couple years. It was on my bucket list and I decided it was time to just go for it. I’d never written anything longer than a blog post or short story, but I decided
